A husband who made an emotional appeal for the return of his missing wife a year ago has been arrested for her murder.

Barry Morphew shared a tearful video after Suzanne Morphew, 49, vanished last May in Colorado, US.

He pleaded for her safe return in the clip a week after she disappeared on May 10 – Mother’s Day in the US.

Morphew said: “Honey, I love you and I want you back so bad.”

But police revealed he has now been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and attempting to influence a public servant.

He was arrested at his home near Poncha Springs, Colorado on Wednesday morning and is being held in custody.

No body has been found in the search for the missing mum-of-two, but police believe she is dead, CBSN Denver reports.

She is reported to have disappeared after she left the family’s home in Chaffee County for a bike ride.

In the video on Facebook pleading for her return, Morphew added: “Oh, Suzanne.

“If anyone is out there that can hear this, that has you, please, we’ll do whatever it takes to bring you back.

“We love you, we miss you, your girls need you, no questions asked, however much they want, I will do whatever it takes to get you back.”

Linda Stanley, the 11th Judicial District Attorney, said it was a “good day for Suzanne” after the charges were announced.

She added: “As far as I’m concerned this day is all about Suzanne, and her family, and those who loved and cared for her.”

Although the body has not been found, she said her office would not bring charges unless they were confident they could prosecute.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said: “Our belief is that Suzanne is not alive at this time.”

He said the arrest follows a year-long investigation.

According to local reports, family members said Morphew was out of town, in Denver, when his wife went missing.

Melinda Moorman, the sister of Ms Morphew, said she was relieved and “justice is beginning for my sister”.

She added: “It’s been a journey that no one ever imagines that they’ll take.”

Morphew is due to appear in court on Thursday for a hearing.
