Denver weather: Sun retreating for the remainder of Memorial Day weekend, forecast says

Saturday morning’s sunshine is about all Denverites can hope to get for the remainder of the long Memorial Day weekend.

The National Weather Service in Boulder is forecasting cooler temperatures and plentiful precipitation Saturday afternoon into Monday night.

There is a 50% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, according to the weather service. The storms should let up some after midnight as temperatures drop into the low 50s. Cloud cover will stay in place with chances of patchy fog in the early morning hours.

Sunday is only expected to reach a high of 59 degrees with a 90% chance of rain. The odds drop to a more optimistic 70% in the evening as the mercury falls to an overnight low of around 48 degrees, according to the forecast.

For the holiday on Monday, conditions will remain much the same. The weather service is calling for a 70% chance of precipitation with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon making barbecues and picnics a risky proposition. Temperatures are expected to top out around 60 degrees

Tuesday, when the work week will begin for many, is expected to be mostly sunny with a higher around 74.
