Standards commissioner Kathryn Stone has reportedly judged him guilty on 21 of 35 complaints, following an 18-month probe. But former Buckingham MP Mr Bercow, 58, said most of the evidence was “hearsay” and many apparent witnesses were not present when the events allegedly happened.

Mr Bercow, who stood down as Speaker in 2019, said: “To call it a kangaroo court is unfair to kangaroos. I resent my reputation being put through the wringer on the basis of a protracted and amateurish process.” An appeals panel verdict is expected by the end of the month which could see him banned from Parliament for life.
