Westbound Interstate 70 is closed just west of E-470 in Aurora due to a tanker truck leaking flammable liquid on the road, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Officials said crews anticipated it could take eight hours or more to clean the spill.
The westbound lanes of the interstate are closed between Exit 288 on East Colfax Avenue and Exit 286 on Tower Road, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
A detour has been set up using E-470 to East Colfax Avenue.
The westbound lanes of the interstate will remain closed until the spill can be cleaned, the Aurora Police Department said. Drivers and residents should avoid the area.
