A man has been sentenced to a year in jail after police found he had been hiding 6.25 kilogrammes of cocaine up his bum.

In February 2021, 32-year-old Darren Deacon was stopped by police in Cardiff while driving a blue Renault Megane.

Police then searched the vehicle before finding a sealed bag containing a small amount of cannabis.

Cops also seized a Nokia phone and an Apple iPhone, before taking Deacon into custody.

However, once he was searched again at the police station, 32 white cling film wraps fell out of his pants.

Upon inspection, the wraps were found to contain 6.25g of crack cocaine with a purity of 85%, which is a street value of £420.

Police also searched Deacon's home and found digital scales and empty grip seal bags in a chest of drawers.

Upon examination of the mobile phones, messages dating back to 2020 were discovered where Deacon admitted to having been "kicked out" after crack cocaine was found.

In court he admitted to dealing drugs, stating: "I did it – I want nice things and it's the only way I can make money."

During his interview with police, Deacon denied dealing cocaine and claimed that the wraps found on his person were for his own use. and that he took cannabis to help anxiety.

The court heard Deacon was currently serving a sentence of 40 months imprisonment from August last year after he was caught dealing 25 wraps of cocaine weighing over 85kg.

He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of Class B drugs.

During the sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, Deacon's defense counsel, Ross McQuillan-Johnson, said Deacon wanted to start a new life and get a job when he was released from prison.

Recorder Greg Bull KC sentenced Deacon to 12 months imprisonment, to be served consecutively to his current sentence, stating: "Drugs cause destruction of lives and has had an impact on your own life because you became addicted and had to sell to feed your own habit."
