Moment William books diner into Indian restaurant — he had no idea it was Prince

Prince William appeared to have taken up a new job in Birmingham when he booked an unsuspecting customer in at an Indian restaurant.

William and Kate Middleton were both in the UK's second city today (Thursday, April 20) and popped into The Indian Streatery as part of their visit.

Footage has since emerged showing the Prince of Wales' comedic side as he picked up the restaurant's phone and booked a customer in.

Hilariously, the customer had no idea he was speaking to the heir to the throne, reports BirminghamLive.

William was heard asking the customer: "Maybe half two? Half past two? In about an hour for two people?"

Kate joked with him that he should tell the customer to come down sooner while they were there.

It has since emerged that the customer was Vinay Aggarwal, 32, who was visiting from London with his wife Ankita.

The couple, both software engineers, were unfamiliar with Birmingham but had heard about the food at city centre joint The Indian Streatery.

Vinay was also clearly unfamiliar with William's voice as he admitted he did not realise what had happened until he arrived at the restaurant.

"I didn't know at all, that's a surprise, I thought I made a booking. I didn't know at all it was Prince William! I was thinking twice about coming here, it is pretty surprising and hard to digest as well," he told BirminghamLive.

When asked if he would be telling everyone about his royal interaction, Vinay replied: "Obviously yeah! Like this is not something that happens to me."

He went on: "I didn't recognise him from [just speaking] on the phone….I genuinely thought that someone was actually taking the booking for me."

Kate and William visited The Indian Streatery on the first stop of their tour of the city. It is run by the Sharma family, led by head chef and mum Meena.
