Denver weather: Possible severe hail, tornadoes on eastern plains

Cloudier weather conditions over metro Denver Thursday will bring potentially severe afternoon thunderstorms that, east of the city on Colorado’s eastern plains, may produce hail and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

The scattered storms rolling over Colorado’s Front Range during the late afternoon and evening also may generate bursts of wind, gusting at speeds up to 70 miles per hour, weather service forecasters said, estimating the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in Denver at 50%. Meteorologists anticipated that any storms most likely would hit areas east of the mountains between the foothills northwest of Denver and the plains around Fort Morgan and Limon after 4 p.m.

The high temperature in Denver will be 78 degrees Thursday, decreasing to 73 degrees on Friday, forecasters said. At night, the temperatures are expected to decrease to around 56 degrees.

The weather pattern settling over Front Range cities Thursday, with patchy morning fog, was expected to bring more afternoon rain Friday before clearing somewhat over the weekend, leading to warmer conditions on Monday.
